Rail lines traverse the state, and many routes travel through Columbia and Charleston. In , the trucking industry transported million tons of manufactured freight into and out of South Carolina.

In more than 80 percent of South Carolina's communities, businesses are served exclusively by trucks, which carry 87 percent of all manufactured freight transported in the state.
